The infrastructure of utilities is a favorite subject of mine. And, this is a great photograph. There is a certain utilitarian beauty in the shapes and complexity of the electric grid, whether being expressed at a large scale or at the local street scale. It portrays an awareness and appreciation of pragmatic things.

Hi, Brian! Thanks so much for your wonderful comment! I'm so glad you "get" this photo. So often, we pass by such ordinary scenes without stopping to admire the beauty before us. So happy you see what I see!!

Speaking of utilitarian/vernacular, I photographed a 2" x 3" bronze emblem with a mason's name on it that was embedded in the surface of an old concrete sidewalk. The emblem was dated in the 1920's and identified that the mason was from Boston. It was in the shape of a cloverleaf with some exquisite period detail. The surface of the concrete was cast with a variety of small stone aggregate, giving it a very beautiful warm texture (very unlike the uniform surface of todays typical concrete sidewalks). It really showed how proud this mason was of the workmanship. This seems to rarely if ever get done today. I just discovered it while taking a walk (Arlington, Ma.). I love it when I discover things like this. A story can be read into it.
